Because hate is too great a burden to bear.
A good friend of mine (also a teacher), nearing the end of one school year, gave it to me straight. She said that we'd entered the time of year where there was one rule, applied universally: Don't be a dick. Don't worry, I didn't say it out loud or write it on the whiteboard, though I may have mumbled it under my breath, even if as a reminder to myself.
But really, isn't it just that simple?
Don't be a dick.
As our country becomes more divided, can't we all just remember that one thing? It isn't that hard. Well, usually it isn't.
Tears fell down my face watching the news reports of the hatred that filled Charlottesville, VA last weekend. Obviously some folks didn't get hugged enough...or didn't get the message about "the rule".
A portion of proceeds from my August sale will be donated to the ACLU.
That is all.
Oh. And, just be nice. (Or you can say it the other way, too.)
